Agnes Medvecz

June 16, 1928 — August 3, 2025

Wausau

Agnes Rose Medvecz, née Palesch, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Weston at the age of 97. She was born on June 16, 1928, in the Town of Hewitt to Stephen and Rose Palesch.

On June 18, 1949, Agnes married Michael Medvecz in Wausau. They shared their married life and raised their six children in Calumet Township (Gary), IN until Michael's death in 2005. Agnes was a member of the Rosary Sodality in her parish, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Gary, IN. She enjoyed gardening and, for many decades, canned and froze fruits and vegetables for her family. She was an excellent cook, best known for her chicken and dumplings, nutroll, and blueberry muffin recipes. Along with her husband, she had a passion for growing and displaying roses. She was a consulting rosarian and held multiple leadership positions in the Duneland Rose Society. She also enjoyed birdwatching, a pastime that she has passed along to her children.

In 2012, Agnes moved to the Pines at Mount View Senior Apartments in Weston. She became a parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Wausau. At the Pines, she spent 12 years making new friends and leaves behind a very special friend, Muriel Sheasby. Together, they were loyal Chicago Cubs fans who followed the team in good times and bad but joyfully celebrated their unbelievable 2016 World Series victory.

Agnes is survived by her six children: Michael "Mick" (Martha) Medvecz of Mount Pleasant, Robert "Bob" (and the late Jacqueline) Medvecz of Oshkosh, Kathleen "Kitty" (Robert) Vargas of Portage, IN, David "Dave" (Sharon) Medvecz of Algonquin, IL, Patrick "Pat" (Sally) Medvecz of Rib Mountain, James "Jim" (Michelle) Medvecz of Greenville; 12 grandchildren, Michael and Matthew (Janel) Medvecz, Vanessa Vargas and Phillip (Anita) Vargas, Andrew (Lauren) Medvecz, Michelle (Christopher) Dobbins and Erin (Zach) Garrett, Shannon and Connor (fiancé Abby Schwalbe) Medvecz, Thomas, Ronald, and Christopher Medvecz. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and adult siblings Minnie (George) Mortenson, Ruth (Louis) Mortenson, and Ernest Palesch. She was also preceded in death by siblings William (age 4), Norma (age 2), John (age 2 months), and Rose (stillborn).

The family thanks the staffs of Aspirus Palliative Care at Wausau Hospital, Aspirus Health Hospice and Rennes Health and Rehab Center for the compassionate care they provided Agnes over the past 18 months.
