Barbara Helen Leffin, 88, of Wausau, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Barbara was born on October 19, 1937, in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, to Henry and Hazel (Anderson) Olson. She was raised with a strong sense of family, faith, and service that guided her throughout her life.
She graduated from Stoughton High School, where she was an original member of the school's Norwegian Dancers. Barbara's passion for serving others was evident early in life, and she later served as President of the Junior Women's Club. In retirement, she generously volunteered at the Grand Theatre in Wausau, where she enjoyed supporting the arts and her community.
Barbara devoted more than 30 years to education as a kindergarten teacher and school counselor. She touched the lives of countless students and families while serving the Wausau School District and Orchard Ridge Elementary School in Madison. Her kindness, patience, and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
An adventurous spirit, Barbara loved traveling the world. She and her beloved husband, James, spent their winters in Mexico and cherished summers together at their home in Mercer, Wisconsin. Whether exploring new places or enjoying the beauty of Wisconsin's Northwoods, Barbara found joy in every season of life.
Barbara's Christian faith was the foundation of her life. She was a devoted and active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in the Village of Maine, where she found strength, fellowship, and purpose.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, James; her daughters, Kathy Leffin of Wausau and Brenda (Tim) Schuelke of Appleton; her grandchildren, Cody (Alexandra) Schuelke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Keegan Schuelke of Appleton; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives she enriched.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hazel Olson, and her sister, Susan Robbins.
Barbara's warmth, compassion, unwavering faith, and love for her family will be deeply missed and forever treasured by those who knew her.
