Dorothy "Dottie" Kim Rathjen, 66, passed away on May 2, 2026. Born on July 3, 1959, Dottie lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, service, and creativity, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Dottie was a lifelong learner who pursued her education with dedication and purpose. She graduated from Northcentral Technical College in 1979 with an Associate of Arts degree in Secretarial Science with an emphasis in Medicine. In 1984, she achieved her Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) designation, reflecting her professionalism and commitment to excellence.
Continuing her education, Dottie graduated from Wartburg College in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration emphasizing Management. During her time at Wartburg, she was an active and respected member of campus life. She belonged to Lambda Beta Phi, served on the Educational Policy Committee as a student representative to the faculty, participated in the chapel choir, and received the prestigious Dell Award for Peace and Justice, an honor recognizing a senior dedicated to the integration and acceptance of all members of society.
Throughout her career, Dottie served in many meaningful roles, including transcriptionist, medical secretary, executive assistant, law enforcement/E911 dispatcher, and volunteer Emergency Medical Technician. In every position, she brought compassion, professionalism, and a servant's heart.
Dottie found her greatest joy and peace in her faith and in the life of St. John's Episcopal Church. The serenity and sacred rhythms of church life were a constant source of comfort and fulfillment for her.
Outside of church, Dottie embraced life's simple and creative joys. She loved gardening, music, and the companionship of her beloved dogs. Her artistic spirit was evident in her many creative pursuits, including drawing, knitting, crocheting, chalk art, and a wide variety of crafts that she lovingly shared with others.
Dottie is survived by her mother, JoAnn Rathjen; her sisters, Joy Rathjen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Kay (Alan) Tulppo of Eagle River, Wisconsin, and nephew Bernard Schoneberg (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) along with many extended family members, friends, and members of her church community who will deeply miss her gentle spirit and caring heart.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Rathjen; her grandparents, Bernard and Dorothy Pfister and Henry and Erna Rathjen; and her uncle, Duane Pfister.
Dottie's life was a testament to kindness, faith, acceptance, and service. Her quiet strength, creativity, and compassionate heart will be remembered always.
