Florence Louise Fischer

Florence Louise “Flo” Fischer, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Weston after a brief battle with cancer. Florence was born in Withee Wisconsin on July 20, 1945, daughter of the late John “Bert“ and Gertrude (Baumgarten) Cardinal.

On April 22, 1967, Florence married life long partner Dennis “Butch” Fischer and together they built a life rooted in family and hard work. Florence attended Medford High School, graduating in 1963 and went on to attend the Taylor County Teachers College graduating June 11, 1965.

Florence grew up on her family farm in Dorchester where she learned the importance of hard work. She started her career as a teacher, teaching in both public and parochial schools until they moved their family to Marshfield in 1976 where she started as a substitute teacher until she took a job with the Marshfield Medical Center working as a dietician. Florence was an amazing cook, baker and crafter and liked to volunteer. She passed on many of those talents to her family. In 1983 they again moved their family to Stratford where they loved being a part of the community and supporting their children through high school. Florence and Dennis ventured later in life to care for others and started several assisted living facilities in the Wausau area beginning with McIntosh House and then Jackson Square and Terrace Court facilities.

Her pride in life were her children and she would share about them to anyone who would listen. Next to them, her only biological grandson Keaton was the other pride of her life.

Florence is lovingly survived by her husband Dennis; her children John (Brook) Fischer of Blanchard Oklahoma and Marijane (Tim) Wegner of Shawano, 5 Grandchildren and their spouses; 13 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by Sister-in-laws Bonnie Hamm, Marjean Poehnelt and Darlene (Rollie) Bostwick and numerous nieces and nephews along with very special neighbors.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

A memorial service for Florence will be held at Brainard Funeral Home in Weston at 11:00 am on Saturday May 10, 2025, with Pastor Dwayne Lueck officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
