James Brown

June 1, 1939 — September 20, 2019

James A. Brown, 80, of Mosinee, passed away on September 20, 2019 surrounded by family. With heavy hearts, his family bids farewell to their beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He was loved by all and will be missed by many.

Jim was born in Stevens Point on June 1, 1939 to the late Alvin and Juanita (Grover) Brown. He graduated from Iola High School in 1958, and married Elaine, his wife of 60 years on June 13, 1959. A welder by trade, Jim completed an Associates degree and worked for the Loed Corporation for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elaine Barbara (Mientke) Brown; five children, Nancy (Steve) Hommerding, Marjory (Mark) Prazuch, Candy (Richard) Wodora, James Brown Jr., and Kathryn (Chris) Buenning; nine grandchildren, Jonathan (April) Hommerding, Kelli (Josh) Burbach, Autumn Prazuch, Elena (Scott) Postelnik, Richard Wodora Jr., Andrew Brown, Amanda Brown, Jackson Brown, and AJ Buenning; three great grandchildren, Rylee, Cameron and Archer Hommerding; and his brother Richard (Fran) Brown. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Hugh Brown, Fritz Brown, Joe (Sandy) Brown; and his sisters, Dixie (Tony) Gray and Bonnie (Karl) Losinski.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, ice fishing, hunting and watching the many birds outside his Mosinee home. Many days were spent on remote lakes with wife, children and grandchildren. Ever patient and full of humor, and always ready with a joke or a song, those times created enduring memories for his family. Catching crappie with tip downs, staying out until toes were cold and eyes were tired, always ready for an adventure. He loved spending time with family, was always ready for a visit, and enjoyed picnics at Mission Lake, holidays with the kids, and his faithful dogs. Ready with a witty comeback just to get a reaction, Jim enjoyed teasing, and loved watching his family grow. The family always knew, even toward the end, that all the teasing, joking, crazy names, goofy songs and laughter masked one of the biggest hearts ever known. Generous to a fault, Jim always identified what others needed and never allowed them to go wanting. Many unsuspecting recipients felt the warmth of his gifts.
