James David Zastrow, age 88, of Rothschild, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 2, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. James graduated from D.C. Everest High School, Class of 1956, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of E-1 First Class. While in the Air Force, Jim and Rosemary (Arrowood) were married here in Wausau on June 7, 1958, and lived in Shreveport, Louisiana until the end of his service.
Following his military service, James, Rosemary, and the twins came back to the Wausau area. He worked in several different companies over the years, including Sears and Drott. James then worked as a field engineer at Zimpro/Siemens Water Technologies until his retirement in 1999. Following his retirement, Jim worked as a consultant. James enjoyed all the traveling around the world he experienced at his jobs, especially when Rosemary could join him.
James worked to build his house and raise his family on the land he loved. James enjoyed his time with his family and friends, including the time he spent hunting, fishing, and working in the woods. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Jim loved his church family at Redeemer Lutheran Church, and had served on the council there.
James is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Zastrow; his children, Kelly (Craig) Zweck, Tracy Rucinski, Kevin Zastrow, Craig Zastrow, and Bryan Zastrow; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Gertrude Kunzman, and his parents-in-law, Samuel and Velva Arrowood.
