Loren F. La Porte, 98, of Rothschild passed away surrounded by family on Friday, November 28, 2025 at Renaissance Assisted Living, Weston, WI. Loren was born February 17, 1927 to the late Augusta (Zinser) and Arthur La Porte in the Town of Kelly, WI. He attended the one room school house in Kelly and received his secondary education at Wausau High School where he lettered in football and was the boxing captain. Loren received a football scholarship to UW Madison but when he attended the first practice he returned home after realizing his 5'6" frame did not match the size of the other players. Loren enlisted in the US Coast Guard during WWII and served on ships that went up and down protecting the east coast of the US. After being discharged at the end of the war he returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Hunt on June 7, 1947 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Schofield, WI. At 16 yrs old he began working for Babl Construction and then he worked for Frank's Auto Body for 20 years. Eventually Loren opened his own business, Loren's Auto Body, in Rothschild which he operated for 20 years. In 1986 he handed the business over to his son, Bruce, but could be found there helping out for years afterward. He was very proud of being a Charter Member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Rothschild.
Our dad will be remembered by his hard work ethic, his story and joke telling and his sense of humor. Tinkering was his pastime, there was nothing broken that couldn't be fixed and he lived that motto right up until entering assisted living.
Survivors include his children: Mary Kay (Kent) Luedtke, Neillsville, Bruce (Shelley) La Porte, Rothschild, and Scott La Porte, Rothschild; grandchildren: Kim, Ryan, Greg, Larissa, Dusty and Alaina; 13 great grandchildren: Avery, Nolan, Leighton, Lincoln, Eastan, Wesley, Brody, Elise, Reese, Leah, Keegan, Nora and Luca and a sister-in-law Joan Oliva.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie, his daughter, Lynn, his parents, his brothers; Arthur, Lenard, and Edward; his sisters: Josephine, LaRayne and Clarvita.
The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to caring staff at Renaissance and the wonderful loving care of St. Croix Hospice to Loren and his family.
