Marvin Kroening

Marvin R. Kroening, age 91, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born on March 14, 1935, in Stratford, Wisconsin, to Emil and Eleanor (Pember) Kroening. Marvin graduated from Stratford High School in 1953 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1953 to1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and, after completing basic training, attended the Army Language School in Monterey, California, where he graduated as a Korean linguist.

Marvin served in Korea from 1956 on the island of Pyong Young Do, located 125 miles north of the DMZ, 5 miles offshore, for one year. From 1957 to 1958, he was with Security Services in the U.S. Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. After his military service, Marvin returned to school, attending the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County campus in the spring of 1959 and the fall semester at UW-Madison. Following his education, Marvin began a long and successful career with Hoffer Glass Company in Wausau, Wisconsin.

In 1960, Marvin married Judith Ulrich. They shared a life full of love along with having three children. They were married 66 years. He is remembered fondly for his kindness, generosity, dedication and love to his family and friends.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Judy; children, Brian (Lisa) Kroening, Kurt (Sue) Kroening and Sheri (Mark) Pankow; grandchildren, Sam, Nicholas, Ellie (Kroening), Aaron, Austin, Marissa (Mohr) and Jesse (Williams) great-grandchildren, Everett, Violet (Hammond) and sister, Marjorie (Dennis) Redetzke. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Eleanor (Pember) Kroening; his parents-in-law, Arnold and Marie Ulrich and brother Donny.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Brainerd Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 822 Adams Street, Wausau, Wisconsin, with Pastor Jack Busche officiating. Family and friends are invited to greet the family for a time of visitation from 1:30 PM until the time of the service at the Funeral Home. Military honors will follow the service.
