Michael Howard Schueller

June 22, 1945 — September 28, 2025

Wausau

Michael H. Schueller, age 80, of Wausau, passed away peacefully at his beloved hunting shack on Sept. 28, 2025—a fitting place for a man who felt most at home in the outdoors.

Mike was born on June 22, 1945, in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan to the late Walter and Lois (Smith) Schueller. After graduating high school (Herman, MN), he attended St. Cloud University, where he was a collegiate wrestler and earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education. On Nov. 26, 1969, Mike married the love of his life, Mary Lou “Mimi” McCormick.

In 1974, Mike’s career led the family to Wausau, where he first taught History for two years and then moved to Phy Ed at Wausau East. A natural mentor, he also coached football and wrestling, inspiring countless students on and off the field and mat. Never one to slow down, Mike earned his first master’s degree in Phy Ed from Bemidji State University and his second from UW–Superior in Educational Administration.

A true outdoorsman, Mike found joy in hunting and fishing, especially when sharing those moments with his son, grandson, and close friends at the hunting shack on the west side of the Willow. His legacy is one of devotion—to his family, his students, his community, and to the simple joys of life in the great outdoors. Avid sports fans, he and Mimi loved traveling all around the country together watching their kids’ high school and collegiate sporting events and camping in the Midwest.

Mike is survived by his wife Mimi Schueller; children Janna (Fred) Hillman of Wausau, Jon (Cara) Schueller of Chippewa Falls and Sarah Schueller of Wausau; grandchildren Molly (Mike) Funes, Beth McIlquham, Natalie Schueller and Tynan Schueller; and sister Marge Gerber, several sister in-laws and brother in-laws along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his loyal dog and snack buddy Scout and grand dogs Josie, Colt, and Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lois Schueller, his father and mother in-law Bill and Marie McCormick and brother-in-law Bob Gerber.
