Nancy Ann Pries

May 22, 1935 — Jun 29, 2026

Nancy Ann Pries, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, in Wausau, Wisconsin, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 22, 1935, Nancy lived a life defined by faith, service, compassion, and deep devotion to those she loved.

Nancy graduated from West Milwaukee High School, where she met the love of her life, Howard "Howie" Pries. Their connection was immediate, and they were married on October 19, 1957. Together they shared nearly 68 years of love, partnership, and cherished memories until Howie's passing on August 18, 2025. Their journey began in their first home, affectionately remembered as the "Little House on the Alley," where they laid the foundation for a life rich in family, friendship, and laughter.

Together, Nancy and Howie raised their three children-Betty, Bonnie, and Michael-in a home filled with love, encouragement, and wisdom. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend whose gentle guidance and caring heart touched countless lives.

Nancy possessed many talents and gifts. She played the accordion, prepared memorable family meals, and offered a listening ear and thoughtful advice not only to her own children but also to their friends. Her kindness knew no bounds. Whether volunteering at church, serving as a leader for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, or volunteering at St. Clare's Hospital, Nancy was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her warm smile, compassionate spirit, and genuine care brought comfort and joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Nancy found great happiness in the outdoors. She enjoyed camping, hiking, boating, and water skiing with family and friends. Family vacations at Lynn Ann's Campground in St. Germain became treasured traditions and created lasting memories for her grandchildren. Yet some of her greatest joys were found in life's simplest moments-sitting at her kitchen table with a cup of coffee, watching the birds gather at the feeder and laughing at the occasional squirrel that stopped by.

Faith was the cornerstone of Nancy's life. She lived her beliefs through service, kindness, and fellowship. Alongside Howie, she was an active member of her church community for many years, participating in family groups, youth ministries, women's circle, and countless church activities. She especially enjoyed gathering with friends for card club, where a spirited game of Sheepshead was always a favorite.

Nancy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, welcoming home, and the love she shared so freely with family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the lives she touched, and the countless memories cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Though her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in knowing that Nancy and Howie are together again, reunited in the presence of the Lord they faithfully served throughout their lives.

Nancy's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will remain in the hearts of her family forever.

Nancy is survived by her daughters Betty Rasmussen (Douglas) and Bonnie Surkin (Barry); son Michael Pries (Maryrose); grandchildren Claire Chamberlain, Michael Surkin (Chelsea), Jason Surkin (Kenzi), Cooper Pries, and Johnny Pries; and great-granddaughter Margot Surkin. Her legacy of love and laughter continues through each of them.
