Patricia Grall

July 16, 1946 — November 7, 2020

Wausau

Patricia Anne Grall passed away on 7 November 2020 due to complications from the COVID19 virus. She was 74 years old. Pat, as she was known by family and friends, is survived by her best friend and husband of 53 years, John Joseph (Joe) Grall of Wausau, WI; her only child Eugene James (EJ, James) Grall and his husband and Pat’s second son, Oka Diputra, who reside in Bangkok, Thailand and Bali, Indonesia. She is also survived by three sisters, Gail Gumness of Wausau, Mary Lynne Hull of Mosinee, and Nancy Tews of Antigo.

Pat was born to Robert and Jane DuBrucq of Antigo, WI, on 16 July 1946. She graduated Antigo High School in 1964; married John Grall of Antigo in April 1967; and welcomed her only child into the world in March 1970. Pat and family relocated to Wausau in 1984, where she continued working in finance and accounting for a number of local businesses. In the mid-1990s she realized a life-long ambition and returned to college to pursue nursing studies. She graduated from Northcentral Technical College in 1994 and began her second career as an RN She lived her passion of caring for others as a nurse for more than 15 years, working at the former Wausau Hospital and Marshfield Clinic. After retiring in 2005, Pat continued to give of herself and to share the abundance of love and compassion that characterized her, by volunteering at St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.

In addition to her family, Pat leaves behind an expansive group of friends, relationships nurtured over her lifetime at home in Wisconsin, across the US and around the globe. Summers in Wisconsin meant time with friends on the golf course, in the backyard, up north swimming and boating on the lakes, and generally celebrating and making fun wherever and whenever she deemed it was needed. Winters were usually spent with Joe in Green Valley, Arizona, where the warmer weather allowed her to enjoy time on the golf course as well as be the social organizer she was, always planning something to bring people together and enjoy one another’s company. Pat and Joe had friends spread across the US whom they enjoyed visiting or joining for vacations. After you knew Pat for a few minutes, you felt you knew her your entire life; she had an amazing ability to build and maintain human connections and friendships. Those relationships were all incredibly dear to her, whether they dated back to childhood, were made in recent months, or anywhere during her lifetime. Pat is remembered as well by a host of friends she made through her travels visiting James and Oka in Asia and Europe, as well as the US.

Pat was cremated on 13 November and her immediate family will scatter her remains privately in Wisconsin and Bali. Given the state of the pandemic, no memorial service or celebration will be held at this time. Pending the state of public health, Joe, James and Oka plan to hold a celebration of Pat’s life in Spring 2021, information on which will be shared on both Pat and Joe’s Facebook page.
