Sylvia B. Koch

March 29, 1929 — May 23, 2025

Wausau

Sylvia Bernice (Stolp) Koch entered into eternal life with her Lord on May 23, 2025 at Mountain Terrace Senior Living in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Sylvia was born on March 29, 1929 to the late William and Alvina (Susie Mohr) Stolp in Medford, Wisconsin.

Sylvia graduated from Owen High School in 1947 and started work at Will’s Implement until 1949. In 1949 she joined the Former Employers Liability Insurance Company where she worked until 1960 when she then became a full time Homemaker. It was at Wausau Insurance where she met Norman Koch and their relationship led to marriage. They were married in Owen on October 20, 1951. Norman and Sylvia had a great life together until he passed in 1999. She later became a volunteer at Wausau Colonial Manor for 45 plus years. She was also a caregiver to her husband for about 10 years. Her whole life was focused on caring for others.

In her early years she enjoyed curling. She was a mixed curler and joined the ladies’ team for a number of years. They had a local team named Team Skipped that won the state championship in La Crosse with Sylvia’s assistance.

Sylvia was a social butterfly. Formal events with Norman and family events were fulfilling. Always on the go, Sylvia lived life to its fullest. She loved dancing different styles throughout the years, but mostly polkas later in life. This is where she met her companion/partner/friend, Roger Kemp. She also enjoyed trips to the casinos, vacations, playing cards and just looking after her neighbors as she always wanted to help others. Sylvia was a constant cruiser and an Arizona Snowbird. She was a member of the Elks Club and was involved with Lions Club in Wisconsin.

She is survived by her brother Donald (Fay) Stolp; cousins Pat and Dave Blazer; nephews Mike (John) Stolp and Jeff (Vicki) Stolp; and niece Yvonne (Shane) Moen. She is further survived by her great nieces Brooke, Shawna and Heidi and great nephews Dylan, Zachery and Jay.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband Norman, parents William and Alvina (Mohr) Stolp, great nephew Anthony Stolp and sister and brother-in-law Hilda and Adolph Seefeldt.
